About
DFEND (Dussault Foundation for the Establishment of Non-toxic Dwellings, NFP) believes in the medical necessity of non-toxic, mold-safe environments for the recovery from all neuroendocrine-immune illnesses, which can include myalgic encephalomyelitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic Lyme disease, multiple chemical sensitivities, Gulf War illness, CIRS (chronic inflammatory response syndrome following exposure to mold and other biotoxins) and others. Our initial mission is to establish a prototype model facility that ultimately can be reproduced to serve patients in many locations. This facility will give patients access to affordable and healthy housing, and appropriate care and support during their recovery. Severely ill patients, particularly those who are bedbound, will be given priority in access to services. We will be working with architects, doctors, and other environmental health experts in choosing building materials and designs which will provide a truly healing environment. DFEND, NFP aims to become a leading educator about the relationship between living environments and neuroendocrine-immune illnesses.
We are in the beginning stages of fundraising, and are incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in Illinois. We hope to soon begin the process of applying for status as a 501c(3) charitable organization.
